Mosselbay & our place in it
Mossel Bay is one of South Africa most beautiful towns situated on the scenic Garden Route. It boasts the 2nd most moderate climate in the world. This make it a fantastic holiday destination for both foreign and local tourists.
Another point of interest is its history whitch dates back to 1488 when Bartolomeu Dias first sailed in to Mossel Bay searching for a place to set up a depot. This protected bay was later used as a stop over to refresh supplies and take on fresh water. Eventualy a small town developed and not long after that it was realised that comercial fishing was viable.
Since then many have made thier livings off of the beautiful coastline surrounding our area and a booming industry was established. Unfortunatly, due to prior mismanagement and illeagal poaching our fish stocks have come under enormous pressure. This resulted in a revised fishing quota system that saw many "life long" commercial fisherman lose their boats and their jobs. Also stricter bag and size limits were imposed on the recreational fishing.
We try to remedy the current situation, firstly by employing the people left jobless by the changes and secondly, by enforcing the bag and size limits of our fishing trips as well as encouraging Tag and Release.
